Activity: Exploring.

Like so many others in the world, I love a good adventure. Whether it be a trip to the woods, or flying half way across the world. It can't be beaten. I love exploring new cultures, foods, sights, sounds, tastes and religions- it opens the mind to new experiences and prepares you for all eventuality and possibilities for the future.
So yeah, it's alright.
So, here is the complication of my reasons and opinions as to why I think EXPLORING is good.

20 REASONS WHY I THINK EXPLORING IS GOOD

1. If the concept of exploration didn't exist, many fantastic and beautiful countries would still remain undiscovered today.

2. Think of all the amazing adventure films out there. If exploration didn't exist, they wouldn't either. NO STAR WARS?! Scandal.

3. Think of the millions of people that jet all over the world each year...millions of people can't be wrong.

4. Exploring and travel opens up new possibilities and experienced that you may otherwise have never been introduced to.

5. Having the courage and bravery to explore and travel adds to strength of character.

6. Travelling with friends or family can bond you, and bring you closer together with the experiences and events that you share together.

7. If it wern't for explorers and travellers, we may never have been introduced to some of the most delicious and nutritious fruits, foods and goods- bananas and rice, to name a few.

8. Exploring can be very inexpensive. You don't have to get onto a plane to explore- you could simply step out into your back garden.

9. Tree climbing, one of my favourite past times as a child is one of the most exciting and inexpensive types of exploring you can do. Pretty tempted to go and find a tree to climb this summer...though it has been around ten years. I might be a little rusty.

10. Exploring has given birth to hundreds of television programmes, educating and entertaining the masses.

11. If exploring didn't exist, neither would the film 'Carry on Columbus'...for many, I'm sure this is no bad thing but when I was younger I was more than a bit in love with Jim Dale.

12. If the concept of exploring did not exist, we would not be familiar with some of the exotic and beautiful animals on our planet, such as tigers, elephants, lions, and polar bears.

13. Exploring gives us a sense of who we are, and where we came from...in genealogical terms.

14. As children, exploring forms our character- making mistakes and discovering things around you helps you to learn and grow.

15. Imagine if you never knew Disneyland existed...shocker.

16. Exploring new films, media and literature can develop personal tastes and interests. I like to call them "fangirl/boyisms".

17. As I child, going to school in a woodland area, we would often go on conservation trips and count the amount of bugs and beasties we could find in the local pond area. I once found a (grass) snake...they call me Indiana Wilson...

18. If it wern't for travel and documentary programes, most people would never feel an experience of some of the more exotic and distant countries.

19. Exploring can also be educational, exploring different research areas for self-improvement, and inriching specialist fields...just like I'm doing now!

20. My sister and I, in our youth, obtained some pretty sweet dens thanks to exploring.

20 FACTS ABOUT EXPLORING

1. Exploration is the act of searching or travelling around a terrain (including space, see space exploration) for the purpose of discovery of resources or information.

2. Exploration occurs in all non-sessile animal species, including humans.

3. In human history, its peak is arguably seen during the Age of Discovery for Europe's contact with the rest of the world, and major explorations after the Age of Discovery for scientific exploration in the modern era.

4. The term may also be used metaphorically, for example persons may speak of exploring the internet, sexuality, etc.

5. In scientific research, exploration is one of three purposes of empirical research (the other two being description and explanation). Exploration is the attempt to develop an initial, rough understanding of some phenomenon.

6. The Phoenicians (1550 B.C. - 300 B.C.), traded throughout the Mediterranean Sea and Asia Minor, and many of their routes are still unknown today. They may even have been to Britain because of the tin that was found in a few of their wares. The Phoenicians traveled far and wide, some scientists even speculate that they traveled all the way to Central America, although this is disputed. Even Queen Dido, in the Virgil's Aeneid, was a Phoenician from the Asia Minor who sailed to North Africa for safety.

7. Pytheas (380 – c. 310 BC) – Greek explorer. First to circumnavigate Great Britain and to explore Germany. Reached Thule, most commonly thought to be the Shetland Islands or Iceland.

8. An adventure is defined as an exciting or unusual experience; it may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with an uncertain outcome.

9. The term is often used to refer to activities with some potential for physical danger, such as skydiving, mountain climbing and or participating in extreme sports.

10. The term also broadly refers to any enterprise that is potentially fraught with physical, financial or psychological risk, such as a business venture, a love affair, or other major life undertakings.

11. Adventurous experiences create psychological and physiological arousal, which can be interpreted as negative (e.g. fear) or positive (e.g. flow), and which can be detrimental as stated by the Yerkes-Dodson law.

12. For some people, adventure becomes a major pursuit in and of itself.

13. According to adventurer André Malraux, in his La Condition Humaine (1933), "If a man is not ready to risk his life, where is his dignity?". Similarly, Helen Keller stated that "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."

14. Outdoor adventurous activities are typically undertaken for the purposes of recreation or excitement: examples are adventure racing and adventure tourism.

15. Adventurous activities can also lead to gains in knowledge, such as those undertaken by explorers and pioneers. Adventure education intentionally uses challenging experiences for learning.

16. Some of the oldest and most widespread stories in the world are stories of adventure such as Homer's The Odyssey.

17. The adventure novel exhibits these "protagonist on adventurous journey" characteristics as do many popular feature films, such as Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

18.
An adventurer is a person who bases his lifestyle or their fortunes on adventurous acts. An adventurer or adventuress is a term that usually takes one of three meanings:

  • One whose travels are unusual and often exotic, though not so unique as to qualify as exploration.
  • One who lives by their wits.
  • One who takes part in a risky or speculative course of action for profit or position.

19. Under Victorian morality the term, used without qualifiers, came to imply a person of low moral character, often someone trying to marry for money.

20. In role-playing games, the player characters are often professional adventurers, who earn wealth and fame by adventure, such as undertaking hazardous missions, exploring ruins, and slaying monsters. This stereotype is strong enough that the adventurers can often be used as a synonym for the player characters. Non-player character groups of adventurers can also exist, and can be an interesting encounter for the players.
